As a small business owner, a family man, and a veteran, Robert Dobbs has the real world experience and common sense solutions to fix Congress. He decided to run for Congress because of his daughter, Ela, who is autistic. Robert has fought for her healthcare her entire life, but it was not until 2009 that Ela could get the care she needed. That care that came from the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which Rep. Henry Brown voted against. It proved to Robert that government can be a positive force for change, but too many members of Congress are just out of touch with the people. As an elected official, Robert fought to keep his community safe with more firefighters, opposed the closing of vital medical facilities, and refused to vote for a budget that increased local property taxes. Born in Two Rivers, WI in 1967, Robert decided to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army after finishing High School. He joined the 18th Airborne Division and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal. He was stationed at different bases throughout the South, and it was during his time in the military that he fell in love with South Carolina. Having achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 upon finishing his service, Robert stayed in the Carolinas for several years. He worked for the Postal Service as a mail handler until 1996, when he went back to Wisconsin to care for his terminally ill father. Although it was an important family decision, Robert often says leaving the Carolinas was the “worst mistake of my life.” He went on to earn a degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc and a degree in Public Administration from University of Wisconsin Green Bay. He worked his way through college as a machine supervisor and later as a claims adjuster and commercial underwriter. In 1999 he was elected to the Two Rivers City Council for a two-year term, and then for 5 terms on the Manitowoc County Board where he served from 2000 to 2008. He was also appointed to Board of Attorney Review in 2000 by Wisconsin State Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson, where he served for nine years. While raising his family in Two Rivers, he started his own business - Tippy’s Bar and Grill. He is happily married to his wife, Kirsten, with his daughters Ela, Hanna, and Morgan and his son Alaric. Kirstin also started her own business, The Soap Box, a bath and body shop. In 2009 Robert and his family moved back to South Carolina because they knew it was there where they really belonged.
