New York, NY
Class: Musician
Soaked in an atmosphere of magnetic dance grooves and ambient soul, Mike Maven's music possesses a certain grit and sex-appeal often uncommon of a twenty-something, rising artist. The guitar-playing, soul-singing frontman lies somewhere between John Legend and John Mayer, harnessing pop sensibilities, soulful lyrics, and strong musicianship amongst himself and his players. Drawing inspiration from such artists as D'Angelo, Maxwell, and Prince, while paying homage to the backbeat of Hip-Hop and 80s R&B, Mike Maven is the next wave of great talent to grow from his generation.
While sitting on the cusp of breaking out and truly finding his voice, versatility is key to Mike Maven's work, having also been a guest artist and writer for numerous acts spanning Rock to Hip-Hop. Maven is a multi-instrumentalist, playing nearly all the instruments on his most recent recordings, and standing in as songwriter, producer, or bandleader are all comfortable roles. In live performances, Mike Maven and his band show the spirit of their early musical training, opening up songs to allusion and improvisation, audience sing-alongs, and the chance to show off their ability to listen to one another and create something new every time they step on stage.
