Exclusive Interview: Selo the Don

I got a chance to chit chat with Selo the Don, Mr. Feelin Like A Pilot himself. We talked about everything from where he came up with his name, to his song “Feeling Like a Pilot”.  Heres what he had to say:

How did you come up with the name Selo the Don?

That’s a nickname I had for a while. For about 10 yrs. Just figured I would use something that everyone knows me by.

How long have you been rapping and what inspired you to rap?

I been rapping since 2001. What inspired me was that I wanted to send a message to the people. Its our generations way of getting the message out. And the money ain’t that bad either.

Do you look up to any artist?

All the artist that are taking their time out to show love to all the young ppl. Those who are being mentors.

Who would you like to collaborate  with?

Any body from Oklahoma. Rock Band, Country music whatever.

A lot of ppl claim they don’t write… and they’re on their “Lil Wayne” do you write?

I write, but I don’t sit home and write. I write on the spot. I’m not Lil Wayne… I just do Selo.

Whats your next move? Any Albums or mix tapes in the works?

So Syncere Vol. 2 is coming soon. And then an Album Criminal Minded is coming soon. I’ll be on alot of other mixtapes like DJ Drama Boi, DJ Grind Daily.

What do you do during your down time?

Spend time with my kids. If I have any free time, I’ll spend it with them.

Who’s in your play list?

I would have to say Roccbottom’s new mixtape, Drake of course, 50 cent, Just Got Big and JayTizzle.

Feelin Like a Pilot… what were you thinking about when you came up with that song?

Was in the studio late one night… smokin a lil bit. Having a basic discussion with Roccbottom, T Classic and my lil brother P-Wee and I was like “Im feeling like a pilot” thats just how I was feeling. And it just came from there. And they said I have to do something with that. That’s where it came from. Its just they way everyone should be feeling about themselves.
